Cave Canem

Cave Canem (Latin for "beware of the dog") is inspired by the mosaics found in the doorways of Pompeii’s ruins. This silent book follows a hound roaming the ancient city’s streets, delving into generational memory, the aftermath of natural disasters, loss, fear, and my own ancestry. Charcoal drawings bring to life a dreamlike cityscape with a loose style and narrative.

The drawings have been crafted using a variety charcoal sticks and pencils onto paper. This approach was inspired by Pompeii’s ruins and the remnants of the eruption.

The book was realised during a residency at the Sarabande Foundation in London and exhibited as part of their Summer Show 'A Place' in 2024. The book was bound and printed in London by Mazzotti Books.
